Winners of "Ukrainian newsmaking in times of conflicts and hostilities" contest awarded

The results were announced and awards allocated on 4 July within the framework of ‘The Journalist’s Safety While Working in Conflict Zone’ workshop organized by ‘Telekritika’ NGO.

The jury recommended not to award the first prize and start the allocation of places from the second. According to the jury, none of the materials presented conveyed the proposed subject in such an exhaustive way as to be awarded victory.

The second prize, a 3000 UAH award and an extra order for 2000 UAH went to Aleksandr Galyas, a journalist of "Porto Franko" Odesa weekly for his material "She who runs on the wars", made especially for the contest.

 

Тhe third place and a 2000 UAH award with an extra order for 2000 UAH went to an information-analytical portal "Polit.ua" journalist Svetlana Kisil for her article "Кateryna Sergatskova: stream in times of hostilitiestruthful and efficient online information", prepared for "Nova Ukraina" online newspaper.

 

The editorial house singled out a work by Aleksandra Gorchinska, a Gazeta.ua journalist and LOOK INSIDE magazine author, "Journalists will become goods: they will be stolen and demanded ransom for", written for Gazeta.ua site. The author was awarded a 2000 UAH prize.

 

The best student workaward went to a material by Yelena Terletskaya "Аleksey Furman: "In hotspots there is a rule that often works: if they don’t call you, don’t go", prepared especially for the contest. The finalist received a 1000 UAH prize and an extra order for 2000 UAH.
 

A total of thirteen journalist materials took part in the contestThe jury was made by Yuriy Lukanov (Head of Ukrainian Independent Media Trade Union), Natalia Gumenyuk (international journalist, a Hromadske TV founder), Natalia Sokolenko (journalist at Hromadske Radio, ‘Stop Censorshipmovement participant), Vakhtang Kipiani (Editor-in-chief of ‘Istorychna pravda’ project), a Project coordinator of Radio Svoboda "Crimea, Realia", the name is not disclosed for safety reasons
