"WHAT LOCAL MEDIA SHOULD BE LIKE”CONTEST WINNERS AWARDED

The places were allocated and winners announced and awarded on 4 July at ‘Illinskiy’ business centre within the framework of ‘The Journalist’s Safety While Working in Conflict Zone’ workshop organized by ‘Telekritika’ NGO.

The first prize went to the material "Is there a recipe for a local online media to be a success?", which was prepared especially for the contest by SEO expert Dmitriy Khomitskiy in cooperation with Nikolay Orlov, founder of ‘Analytical Centre for ZEON City Development’ NGO and ‘Zdolbuniv CITY’ online publishing company. The authors were awarded 4000 UAH and an extra order of 2000 UAH.

The second prize was awarded by the judges to Lesya Ganzha, "Editorial Portal" editor, for her material "Zorya" of Dnipropetrovsk: Application of user generated content in lonely hearts column", written especially for the contest. The winner received a 3000 UAH prize and an extra order for 2000 UAH. Lesya Ganzha promised to donate a part of her award to buy a TV set for the guys who are fighting at Novoazovsk.

Тhe third prize was awarded to Sergey Chernyavskiy (Head of the ‘Zorya’ newspaper supervisory board) and Boris Rodievskiy (coordinator of regional advertisement sector (‘Gazeta po-kievski’ (kyiv daily) / -donetski (Donetsk daily)/ -dneprovski (Dnipropetrovsk daily)/ - odesski (Odesa daily)/ -lvovski (Lviv daily) in ‘Press-tsentr’ publishing house and RIA Media-Corporation (Ukraine)) Vice-President with their material "12 questions publisher should answer before launching a project", written for "Editorial portal" site. The authors received a 2000 UAH prize and an extra order of 2000 UAH.

"The Best Student Work" award went to Anna Ablitsova and Gennadiy Matvienko, BAs in journalism of Zaporizhya National University, for their article "They feel lazy, or the way Zaporizhy online media unconsciously manipulate the reader", prepared for ablicova.blogspot.com. The authors’ award amounted to 1000 UAH and an extra order of 2000 UAH.

The jury awarded the prize for ‘the best material of a civil journalist and/or blogger’ to Olga Danylyuk, an ‘OGO’ Publishing house journalist and the ‘Rivnenska Gazeta’ weekly editor for her material "Personal and professional efficiency of a multimedia editorial board journalist: advice for beginners", written for "ОGО" blog. The winner received a 4000 UAH prize and an extra order for 2000 UAH.

The editorial choice marked two works presented for the contest: a material by Poltava blogger and ‘Analytical centre for civil society development’ NGO expert Dionisiy Kaplin named "What a new director general of Ltava should be like"? (ІNFOGRAPHICS)", made for poltava.pl.ua online publishing company, and a material by Vladimir Voloschuk, editor-in-chief of ‘SODA’  magazine named "Маriupol media: no stories, no heroes, no ideas", made especially for the contest.Both authors received a 2000 UAH award.

A total of twenty-seven journalist materials took part in the contest. The jury was made of Katerina Laba (Director of Institute for Regional Press Development), Аleksey Pogorelov (General Director of Ukrainian Association of Periodicals Publishers), Svetlana Yeremenko (Project coordinator for monitoring of regional media of Ukrainian Educational Centre for Reforms), Аleksey Matsuka (Editor-in-Chief of ‘Novosti Donbassa’ online newspaper, Director of Donetsk Information Institute).
