Eight students received MYMEDIA scholarships

Eight students enrolled in the Master's programs in Journalism and Media Communications of Ukrainian Catholic University received special working scholarships. Funds to cover the cost of their tuition and accommodation will be provided by MYMEDIA Project.

 

 

Admissions commission, with the consent of MYMEDIA Project, awarded scholarships to those students from the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine whose admission rating was high.

Scholarship fellows of MYMEDIA are: 

  • Valentyna Balabanova (Kherson) 
  • Volodymyr Voloshchuk (Mariupol) 
  • Oleksiy Kovalenko (Mariupol) 
  • Yevgenia Reznichenko (Donetsk) 
  • Yulia Sosnovska (Mariupol) 
  • Anna Stukalo (Zaporizhzhya) 
  • Anna Plotno (Zaporizhzhya) 
  • Maria Shelia (Odessa) 

 

Conditions for obtaining working scholarships foresee participation of students in the projects and activities of MYMEDIA.

Some of the scholarship fellows had previously participated in the projects of MYMEDIA. For example, Volodymyr Voloshchuk is a winner of journalist contest "What the local media should be" with the article "Mariupol media: without stories, heroes and thoughts". And Maria Shelia and Oleksiy Kovalenko were participants of the Schools of International Journalism.

The project www.mymedia.org.ua is being implemented by a consortium of NIRAS and BBC Media Action with financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.

"A free and independent media is a fundamental part of every democratic society. Our initiative aims at strengthening the objectivity and criticality of journalism by providing opportunity of quality education for young journalists from different regions of Ukraine. Denmark is proud to support this important field within framework of Neighbourhood Programme"- said Mogen Jensen, Minister for Trade and Development in Denmark.
Students from all regions of Ukraine are attending the School of Journalism of UCU, particularly from the Crimea, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv, Odessa and other.

UCU School of Journalism is an important partner of the MYMEDIA Project for the second year in a row. During 2013/2014 academic year jointly with UCU, MYMEDIA held І and ІІ School of International Journalism,  "Media and Identity" Conference, Media Symposium,introduced a scholarship master's program for students from the East and South of the country. Co-operation will continue in 2014/2015 academic year. Conduction of the next Media Symposium,School of political reportage, media educational project "Friends beyond Zbruch" for non-media students are already planned.
